For the love of colour!
Here at ColourWorks we are driven by a love of colour. We enjoy playing with the ways that colours go together and how they can make you feel. The natural dyes we use for dyeing the yarns and scarves create beautiful colours which have a different appearance to synthetic dyes. The use of natural dyes is better for the environment as they are mostly derived from plants, although some colours can be derived from insects. A beetle called cochineal is used for a range of reds and bright pinks, and when overdyed with indigo gives purple.
The process of hand dyeing with natural dyes is labour intensive and time consuming, but the results are so worth the effort!
We dye a range of yarns in different weights and fibres ranging from 4 ply to super chunky and alpaca to merino. All the yarns are natural, except for the occasional sock yarn with a bit of nylon in it for strength and to avoid getting holes in your toes :)
To fulfil your knitting and crochet needs we supply yarns in various weights including:
• 4 ply, double knitting, aran, chunky and super chunky.
• A variety of fibres are available such as organic merino wool from South America, British Bluefaced Leicester wool, baby alpaca, and wool and silk mixes.
• A wide colour palette is available, with all the colours of the rainbow and also shades of brown, rust and copper.
We hand dye silk and cotton scarves using natural dyes in a wide selection of colours. You are sure to find something here to match any outfit, with many shades of each colour and tie-dyed scarves in two or more colours. The scarves make ideal gifts and are available in several sizes.
